A Return to My Father's House
Welcome to Pray! you whore, a blog that takes you on my personal journey of repentance, reconciliation, and redemption.
Happy Father's Day to my dad.
You truly did the best you could with what you knew at the time.
Now that I am a parent myself, I better understand the responsibility, the fear, and the exhaustion that can come when we try to carry life's burdens without complete surrender, healing, and humility before God.
As I continue maturing in Christ, I have begun to recognize unhealthy patterns not only in the men I have dated but also within myself, my family, and even our generation. Pride, self-reliance, and the desire to control are struggles many of us face.
The truth is that we are all shaped by the families we come from. We inherit both blessings and brokenness. I believe the enemy intentionally targets families because he knows the power of a healthy bloodline rooted in Christ.
Jesus reminds us in John 10:10:
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
From the very beginning, the enemy has sought to destroy God's children because God entrusted humanity with dominion over the earth. Imagine what would happen if we truly understood the spiritual authority and victory we have through Jesus Christ.
Recently, I was talking with a friend about the guilt and brokenness that families often carry.
The weight can feel overwhelming.
The wounds can run deep.
Yet I refuse to give the enemy the victory he desires.
Instead, I choose forgiveness.
I encourage you to forgive as well.
Never forget that one of the enemy's greatest strategies is to divide and conquer.
Although I experienced the pain of divorce and the heartbreak of a broken family, I now thank God for allowing grief to draw me closer to Him rather than farther away.
Sometimes it is our humility and long-suffering that bring us into the deepest intimacy with our Heavenly Father.
Psalm 34:18 reminds us:
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
I am no longer a victim of my circumstances.
I am a victor through Christ.
Today I understand that part of my calling is to stand in the gap for my family, to pray for healing, and to trust God to restore what has been broken across generations.
As I study the life of Jesus, I am continually humbled by His sacrifice.
Through the cross and the shedding of His blood, He made forgiveness possible and invited us into a new spiritual family.
Psalm 14:7 declares:
"Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores His people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!"
This Father's Day, I chose to pray for my earthly father and my entire family, recognizing that only the Lord can truly restore what has been lost.
I have learned that I cannot heal people.
Jesus is the Healer.
I forgive because I have been forgiven.
I extend grace because I have received grace.
Like everyone else, I am a sinner who has repeated unhealthy patterns and generational cycles.
But awareness is the beginning of transformation.
God has been calling me home—to my Father's house.
When we return to our Heavenly Father, our identity is restored.
We begin walking in Spirit and in truth.
We become new creations in Christ and members of His eternal family.
Today I stand grateful for everything my Heavenly Father has allowed me to endure.
This season He has led me through the book of Joshua, a powerful reminder of leadership, consecration, courage, and strength.
I have come to understand that I would not be here, sharing my testimony, apart from God's faithfulness.
As the eldest child and a natural leader, Joshua 1:9 continually speaks to my heart:
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
Perhaps you have spent years running from your calling, just as I did.
Yet God has a beautiful way of bringing us to a place where surrender becomes our only option.
It is there that we discover His peace.
It is there that we learn to rest.
That is why I have titled this reflection "A Return to My Father's House."
As I spend time in my earthly father's home, I have found more than an opportunity to reconnect with family.
I have found an opportunity to reconnect with my Heavenly Father—the One who loves me unconditionally, knows what is best for me, and faithfully leads me toward the inheritance He prepared for me long before I was born.
Today I no longer carry anger, resentment, or unforgiveness toward my earthly father.
Instead, I recognize that no human being was ever meant to carry the weight of being God in my life.
Our hope was never meant to rest in people.
Our hope rests in our Heavenly Father—the One who formed us, knew us before we were born, and continues to call us by name.
This week, the Lord reminded me of 1 Timothy 4:12:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
