A Rainbow in the Clouds and a Fourth Man in the Fire

Yahweh will place a rainbow in the middle of the clouds and storms of life.

This week, I saw a rainbow that felt deeply personal, almost as though Yahweh had placed it there specifically for me. Later, while listening to an interview with Oprah Winfrey and Keke Palmer, I was reminded of Maya Angelou’s powerful message about recognizing the rainbow God has already placed in our clouds.

That truth settled differently in my heart this morning.

Thank You, Yahweh, for sending me a rainbow in the middle of my suffering.

Thank You for reminding me that I am not abandoned.

Thank You for redeeming every painful part of my story.

People may never fully understand what I have endured or what I am currently walking through. However, I am learning that the key is to keep going through it.

Not around it.

Not above it.

Not beneath it.

Through it.

Faith in the Fire

When we begin to understand our value and see ourselves through Yahweh’s eyes, our lives change.

Many of us must walk through difficult seasons, betrayal, disappointment, and even the consequences of self-sabotage before we become the people Yahweh has called us to be.

This morning, I was reminded of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3.

These three men were thrown into a fiery furnace because they refused to worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image. They understood that their obedience to God could cost them their comfort, freedom, and even their lives.

Yet they refused to compromise.

Daniel 3:16–18 says:

“Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, ‘King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and He will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if He does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.’”

Their response was powerful because they did not argue, beg, or attempt to prove their worth.

They already knew who they were.

They knew whom they served.

Their faith was not based only on whether God delivered them from the fire. Their faith remained firm even if the outcome did not look the way they hoped.

That is mature faith.

God is able. But even if He does not answer the way I expect, I will still worship Him.

We Need Faithful Community

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not stand alone.

They stood together.

That detail reminds me of the importance of godly community.

For a long time, I believed I could stand alone as a light in dark places. I thought independence was strength. Today, I recognize that some of that thinking was rooted in pride.

Yahweh did not create us to walk alone.

We need accountability.

We need encouragement.

We need correction.

We need people who will remind us of the truth when the fire becomes intense.

I now study the Bible with a wonderful group of believers, and that community has changed my life. It has strengthened my faith and given me confidence during a season when I desperately needed it.

We need to surround ourselves with people who recognize the light Yahweh has placed within us and encourage that light to grow brighter.

The Fourth Man

Obedience does not always prevent the fire.

Sometimes obedience leads us directly into it.

But when we walk according to Yahweh’s will, the fire cannot destroy what He has chosen to preserve.

The men walked out of the furnace unharmed. Their clothes were not burned, and there was not even the smell of smoke on them.

That is the power of Yahweh.

Daniel 3:24–25 says:

“Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, ‘Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?’

They replied, ‘Certainly, Your Majesty.’

He said, ‘Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’”

Yahweh did not abandon them in the fire.

He met them there.

The same God who places a rainbow in the clouds can also send a fourth man into the furnace.

He is our Redeemer.

Our Protector.

Our Creator.

He has a purpose for our lives, and that purpose will prevail when we trust Him.

Refined, Not Rejected

This has been a season of refinement for me.

My Heavenly Father has been calling me out of disobedience and into obedience.

Out of condemnation and into consecration.

Out of fear and into authority.

Faith must be tested before it can be strengthened.

Gold is refined through intense heat. The fire removes the impurities, or dross, and reveals what is valuable underneath.

In the same way, Yahweh uses difficult seasons to expose attitudes, habits, fears, and wounds that cannot follow us into the next season.

Psalms 12:6 says:

“And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.”

Last year, I committed to reading God’s Word consistently. That decision transformed my life and strengthened my faith in ways I once thought were impossible.

His Word has challenged me.

Corrected me.

Comforted me.

And refined me.

Let Perseverance Finish Its Work

Many of us want the promise without the process.

We want the rainbow without the storm.

We want purification without the fire.

We want strength without the training.

But James teaches us that trials develop perseverance.

James 1:2–4 says:

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Yahweh is not wasting this season.

He is removing the old ways.

He is exposing the habits of the flesh.

He is renewing our minds and teaching us how to walk by the Spirit.

I want perseverance to complete its work in me.

I want to become whole.

I want to recognize every rainbow Yahweh places in the clouds as a reminder of His faithfulness and covenant love.

Keep Walking Through It

The rainbow does not always mean the storm never happened.

It means the storm did not have the final word.

The fire does not mean Yahweh has abandoned you.

It may be the very place where His presence becomes undeniable.

Today, I am learning to trust Him in every season.

In every storm.

In every fire.

In every moment of uncertainty.

What I have endured did not destroy me.

Through Christ, it revealed who I truly am.

I am redeemed.

I am protected.

I am being refined.

And I am never alone in the fire.
