Trust Over Fear

Welcome to Pray! You Whore, a blog that invites you into my personal journey of repentance, reconciliation, and redemption through Jesus Christ.

Fear is something we all experience.

It often grows when we stop living in the present moment God has given us. The past can imprison us with shame, regret, and deception, while the future tempts us with anxiety and uncertainty.

At its core, fear is a struggle to trust God.

It is a counterfeit of faith.

Faith says, "God is with me."

Fear whispers, "I'm on my own."

Every month, during the first three days, I set aside time to fast, pray, and ask the Holy Spirit to search my heart. I intentionally invite Him to reveal any doors that remain open—places where pride, fear, unforgiveness, or self-reliance still compete for my trust.

This month, He revealed something I wasn't expecting.

I have struggled to trust both myself and the Lord because of my past failures.

Instead of resting in God's faithfulness, I found myself leaning on my own understanding while simultaneously fearing my own weaknesses.

The Holy Spirit gently reminded me of Proverbs 3:5–6:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Those words became my anchor.

When the Fast Reveals Your Heart

Today has been one of the hardest days of my fast.

If I'm honest, it has also been one of the most frustrating.

But frustration has become a gift.

God has been exposing the places within my heart that still require surrender, prayer, and repentance.

Sometimes we think following Christ means life becomes easier.

Scripture teaches something different.

Following Jesus often leads us into deeper dependence on Him.

As we grow in obedience, we become increasingly aware of the spiritual battle surrounding us—not because Christ has become weaker, but because His light exposes the darkness.

That realization should not frighten us.

It should strengthen our confidence.

Christ has already won the victory.

Resistance Is Spiritual Training

I don't share my struggles to discourage you.

I share them because I want you to know you are not walking through your battles alone.

Every challenge is an opportunity to deepen your dependence on God.

Every temptation becomes an invitation to pray.

Every trial becomes an opportunity to strengthen your faith.

Resistance is spiritual training.

It develops perseverance.

It produces maturity.

It reminds us that our strength comes from Christ—not ourselves.

The enemy cannot separate us from God.

His greatest strategy is convincing us to surrender before experiencing the victory God has already prepared.

Do not quit.

Do not run.

Stand firm.

Allow God to use every challenge to shape your character and deepen your trust in Him.

The Battle Begins Within

Scripture reminds us that our greatest battle is often not external.

It begins within our own hearts.

We wrestle with pride.

We wrestle with fear.

We wrestle with self-reliance.

We wrestle with unbelief.

Recognizing this is not meant to produce fear.

It is meant to produce humility.

Victory comes when we allow God's Word to transform the way we think.

God's Word Does More Than Inform

Recently, I attended School of the Warrior, a course at my church.

One lesson stayed with me long after I left.

God's Word is not merely information.

It is God's instrument for transformation.

It convicts.

It heals.

It delivers.

It renews.

It saves.

The Bible was never intended to simply increase our knowledge.

It was given to transform our lives.

We Were Never Meant to Walk Alone

One of the greatest blessings God has given me is a healthy church community.

For years I believed I could grow spiritually on my own.

I now understand that isolation weakens us.

Community strengthens us.

God designed the Body of Christ so we could encourage one another, hold one another accountable, and remind each other of His promises.

Together, we studied Psalm 119:1–4:

"Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart—they do no wrong but follow His ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed."

One definition of blessed is to be appointed, chosen, or positioned by God.

Read those verses again through that lens.

Imagine waking up every morning knowing you have been intentionally positioned by your Heavenly Father.

That is the life God desires for His children.

Wholehearted Obedience

For many years I called myself a Christian.

But I had never truly learned God's Word for myself.

Without realizing it, I had allowed other voices to shape my beliefs.

I lived in the gray because I had permitted idols to compete for my heart.

Jesus addresses this plainly in Matthew 6:24:

"No one can serve two masters..."

Eventually, every believer must answer one question:

Whose voice will I follow?

The voice of culture?

The voice of fear?

Or the voice of Christ?

Wholehearted obedience always begins with that decision.

Build the Kingdom Within

Psalm 119 reminds us that God's people are called to live differently.

We are called to be the light.

We are called to reflect Christ wherever we go.

People-pleasing cannot coexist with wholehearted obedience.

Double-mindedness cannot produce unwavering faith.

As I continue growing in Christ, I have realized something profound:

Before God builds His Kingdom through us, He first builds His Kingdom within us.

That inner work is where true transformation begins.

The Starting Five

As a former athlete, I naturally think in terms of a starting lineup.

If I were building a championship team for spiritual growth, these would be my Starting Five:

Prayer
"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
James 5:16

God's Word
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Psalm 119:105

Biblical Community
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship..."
Acts 2:42

Fasting
"When you fast..."
Matthew 6:16–18

Sanctification
"Christ Jesus... has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption."
1 Corinthians 1:30

These five disciplines have become the foundation of my walk with Christ.

Not because they earn God's love.

But because they keep my heart connected to the One who already loves me.

Choose Faith

Fear will always invite you to focus on what could happen.

Faith invites you to remember who God is.

Every day we have a choice.

We can rehearse our fears.

Or we can repeat God's promises.

Today, I choose trust.

Today, I choose obedience.

Today, I choose faith.

And tomorrow, by God's grace, I'll choose Him again.
