You Can't Run From Your Calling

Welcome to Pray! You Whore, a blog that invites you into my personal journey of repentance, reconciliation, and redemption through Jesus Christ.

Today, I want to share a revelation the Lord has been teaching me:

You cannot outrun the calling God has placed on your life.

As sons and daughters of God, we often resist the very things He has designed us to become. We cling to what feels familiar because it gives us the illusion of control.

But God's plans have never been about our comfort.

They have always been about our transformation.

So let me ask you:

What is God asking you to do?

Why are you running from it?

For years, I have been running from leadership.

Not because I doubted God's ability.

Because I doubted mine.

I never wanted the spotlight.

I never wanted the pressure that came with responsibility.

I wanted to stay in what I call the "Fun Spot"—the place where life feels easy, familiar, and free from difficult decisions.

But comfort is rarely where God grows us.

Running From Responsibility

Looking back, I can now see the pattern.

In high school, I never planned to attend prom.

Then I was nominated for prom queen, and suddenly I had to show up.

I never wanted to choose one person to attend with because I hated disappointing anyone.

Instead of making decisions, I preferred planning the after-party.

I avoided responsibility whenever I could.

The same thing happened in sports.

I never campaigned to become captain.

Yet I was continually chosen to lead.

Even then, God was revealing something about my life.

He kept placing leadership in my hands while I kept trying to hand it back.

Now I understand.

God wasn't asking me to become someone else.

He was inviting me to become the woman He had already created me to be.

God's Calling Requires Maturity

As I caught up on my Bible reading this morning, the Lord led me to the story of Saul in 1 Samuel 8–10.

Israel wanted a king.

Although this request grieved Samuel because the people were rejecting God's direct rule, the Lord instructed Samuel to anoint Saul as king.

What fascinated me was Saul's response.

He didn't see himself as a king.

He saw himself as insignificant.

He said he came from Benjamin, the smallest tribe of Israel, and questioned why someone like him would be chosen.

I understood that feeling immediately.

Many of us feel too small for the assignments God gives us.

But God has never chosen people because they feel qualified.

He calls people who are willing to trust Him.

The Donkeys Were Never the Destination

One detail in Saul's story captured my heart.

Saul thought he was simply searching for his father's lost donkeys.

He had no idea God was using that ordinary assignment to lead him into his divine calling.

While Saul was looking for donkeys...

Samuel was waiting.

God had already prepared the appointment before Saul even knew he had one.

That reminded me of my own life.

How many times have I believed I was simply handling ordinary responsibilities while God was quietly preparing me for something far greater?

Often, what feels like an interruption is actually a divine appointment.

God is always working beyond what we can see.

God Changes Hearts

One verse especially stood out to me:

"As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day."
1 Samuel 10:9

Notice who did the changing.

God.

Saul didn't transform himself.

God transformed him.

That gives me tremendous hope.

The Lord isn't asking me to perfect myself before following Him.

He is asking me to trust Him enough to let Him change me.

That is what becoming looks like.

Hiding Among the Supplies

One of my favorite moments in Saul's story comes just after he is chosen as king.

When it was time for Saul to step into his calling, no one could find him.

Scripture says:

"So they inquired further of the Lord, 'Has the man come here yet?' And the Lord said, 'Yes, he has hidden himself among the supplies.'"
1 Samuel 10:22

I laughed when I read that.

Not because Saul was hiding.

Because I realized...

So have I.

For years, I have hidden behind busyness.

Behind perfectionism.

Behind fear.

Behind self-reliance.

Behind excuses.

God lovingly exposed Saul.

And He has lovingly exposed me.

Not to embarrass me.

But to call me out of hiding.

Sometimes our "supply closet" isn't a physical place.

It's whatever we use to avoid obedience.

A Backsliding Heifer Becoming a Daughter

God has often used Hosea to humble me.

More than once, He has reminded me of Israel's tendency to wander.

Like Israel, I have backslid.

Like Israel, I have chosen my own way.

That is one reason I started this blog.

Not to shame myself.

But to remember where God has brought me from.

Pray! You Whore is not a message of condemnation.

It is a testimony of grace.

It reminds me that every one of us is a sinner in desperate need of a Savior.

Transformation begins when we stop defending our sin and start surrendering it.

The more I acknowledge my need for Christ, the more I experience His mercy.

Grace for the Journey

One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that becoming a Christian does not eliminate suffering.

It changes how we walk through it.

Before surrendering my life to Christ, I lived without truly understanding repentance, baptism, or the covering of Jesus' sacrifice.

Today, I still struggle.

I still stumble.

But now I experience the loving conviction of the Holy Spirit.

That conviction is evidence of God's grace at work within me.

His discipline is never meant to destroy me.

It is meant to restore me.

Ephesians 5:20 reminds us:

"Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Even in seasons of failure...

Give thanks.

Even in seasons of waiting...

Give thanks.

Even in seasons of correction...

Give thanks.

Because God's grace has never been dependent upon your perfection.

Step Out of the Fun Spot

Maybe you've been hiding.

Maybe fear has convinced you that you are not ready.

Maybe you've been running from the very thing God has been asking you to embrace.

Take one step today.

Not because you feel qualified.

But because God is faithful.

He already knows who you are becoming.

He is simply inviting you to trust Him enough to follow.

So today...

Leave the supply closet.

Step out of the "Fun Spot."

Stop running.

Your calling has been waiting for you all along.

And remember...

No matter where you've been...

You can still PRAY! You Whore.

Because God's grace is always greater than your resistance.
