Uncertainty with Haggai

My question for you today is simple: Are you walking with the Lord?

Today, I felt overwhelmed, afraid, and anxious because uncertainty had crept into my heart. Like Gideon, I found myself seeking confirmation from the Lord. Some might even say I was arguing with Him. But that is the beauty of a genuine relationship with God—it is a relationship. There are moments when you wrestle, moments when you question, and moments when you finally surrender and come to a deeper understanding of His will.

Today, the Lord and I came to a greater understanding about my calling, my purpose, and my life. When you align yourself with God and remain in Him, you cannot fail because His purposes never fail.

Writing this daily blog has become a discipline that keeps me accountable and helps me stay aligned with the Lord. Early this morning, the Lord led me to 1 Samuel 28, where I immediately recognized the warning He was giving me through the life of King Saul. This chapter convicted me to repent of deceit, double-mindedness, and disobedience—the very things that caused Saul to lose his position as Israel's leader.

I have been praying for God to develop me into a wise leader, and He has faithfully answered that prayer through loving correction, difficult lessons, and what I jokingly call His "whoopings."

Then came the verse of the day, the same verse I mentioned in my Rest in Ritual blog: Matthew 21:43. It felt like another loving but firm call to action.

"Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit."

After reading 1 Samuel 28 and then this verse, I simply said, "Okay, Lord. I hear You, and I repent."

I renounced doubt, fear, and the spirit of poverty because those things do not come from God.

The Lord answered me through His Word because His Word is the only truth we truly need.

As I continued reading, I was led to the book of Haggai. Even the introduction made me smile because it felt like another confirmation that God hears every prayer.

Over the years, God has repeatedly shown me one lesson:

Finish what you start.

Haggai takes place after the Babylonian exile when the Jewish people returned to rebuild the temple. Sixteen years had passed, yet the temple remained unfinished because the people had become consumed with their own priorities while neglecting God's house.

As I read that, I couldn't help but see myself.

For nearly ten years I have been trying to build businesses in my own strength. I have worked tirelessly, run in circles, and often found myself living with a poverty mindset rather than walking in God's provision.

Haggai 1:4–7 pierced my heart:

"Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?... Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill... You earn wages, only to put them into a purse with holes in it."

That passage felt like a coach yelling, "Get on the line!" after missing an uncontested free throw.

No one else missed the shot.

No one else was responsible.

The only person standing at the free-throw line was me.

As athletes, we know exactly what to do. Slow down. Take a deep breath. Trust your training. Follow your routine. Shoot with confidence.

Instead, we often abandon the routine, listen to the noise around us, and allow fear to defeat us before we even release the ball.

God lovingly redirected me through Haggai 1:8–10:

"Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored... You expected much, but it turned out to be little... Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house."

This was a powerful reminder that we cannot expect eternal fruit while neglecting the very things God has called us to build.

Following God is not magic.

It is not passive.

It requires obedience.

It requires climbing the mountain, cutting the timber, and building the house.

It requires faith-filled work.

As I continued reading Haggai, I realized that his messages were designed to stir God's people to finish what they had started. The introduction summarizes his ministry with three beautiful themes:

• Renew your courage in the Lord.

• Renew your holiness.

• Renew your faith in the God who controls the future.

Those words felt like they were written specifically for me.

God is so good.

He is always waiting for His children to return to Him.

I am incredibly grateful to be reunited with my Heavenly Father as His daughter, and I am grateful to know Jehovah Jireh as my Provider.

Haggai chapter one concludes with a beautiful promise after the people chose obedience.

Verses 12–13 say:

"Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the Lord their God... And the people feared the Lord. Then Haggai, the Lord's messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: 'I am with you,' declares the Lord."

Notice that God's promise came after their obedience.

They still had work to do.

Likewise, God has given me specific instructions about how He wants me to build His Kingdom through the businesses He has entrusted to me.

My responsibility is not to control the outcome.

My responsibility is to obey.

Faith means releasing fear.

Faith means abandoning a poverty mindset.

Faith means trusting in the Lord with all my heart.

Today, I encourage you to surrender your uncertainty.

Choose faith over fear.

Choose obedience over hesitation.

Choose to walk with the Lord.
